Inland from the Lisbon Coast, Ribatejo nestles in the heart of Portugal - a dividing line between the Beira mountains to the north and the Alentejo plains to the south. The River Tagus flows through the region and from the lower basin all along both banks, the country's rich heritage is clearly visible.
Home of some of the best agricultural land in Portugal, the Ribatejo generates a large variety of foodstuffs, used in excellent gastronomy, with much of the fertile land dedicated to vineyards producing some of the best wines in the country.
This area offers its visitors great variety with its beautiful landscapes, rich natural resources, culture and a heritage that embraces the whole of the Portuguese history.
Our accommodation in the Ribatejo area is situated just outside the town of Santarém, the region's Gothic capital. Around 50 miles from Lisbon, Santarém leans over the Tagus river with extensive views to west and east. The city's abundant historical heritage is obvious everywhere with great examples of gothic and baroque architecture. The Archeological museum contains impressive remains of both the arab and roman occupation. Santarém is an ideal location to explore, not only Ribatejo but also the beaches of the Silver Coast and of course, Lisbon, the Portuguese capital.
